Farmer City Facts

Farmer City …

Is the only city by its name in the whole country… maybe even the whole world, but I’d have to do some fact checking on that. Ha!

George Rock (on the left in this photo) was a native of Farmer City. He played trumpet and sang with Spike Jones and His City Slickers. George Rock was well known for his lead vocals on the song “My Two Front Teeth,” a Christmas classic. Check it out below!

Abe Lincoln, during his lawyering days was assigned to the 8th Judicial District which included De Witt County, Illinois. So, good ole’ Abe often traveled through Farmer City while riding his circuit.

Farmer City started as Mt. Pleasant, but when mail delivery service started in 1837 – the area adopted the name Santa Anna because there was already a Mt. Pleasant, Illinois. Because the name “Santa Anna” was adopted for mail delivery purposes only, it was decided in 1869 that the town needed an official name… thus… the name Farmer City was born and has remained one of a kind ever since.
